ARTFUL INSIGHTS: AVRIL ANGEVINE’S
ART LECTURE
Yountville Library
/ Call (707) 944-1888 to Register / All Ages
Avril Angevine is an arts lecturer with a particular interest in modern, contemporary, and California
art. She speaks on many subjects at various locations in the Bay Area, including the OLLI programs
at Cal State East Bay, Dominican College, San Francisco State, and the Fromm Institute. Avril has a
BA in English and an MA in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley and taught English and
Humanities at local colleges. She is also a museum guide at SFMOMA, the Oakland Museum, and
the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art.
The World of Ruth Asawa
Ruth Asawa is best known for intricate wire sculptures, based on sinuous organic forms. Originally
derided as craft objects, her nest-like works of wire, brass, and stone are now included in major
museum collections. But Asawa’s longtime San Francisco home and garden inspired a creative
universe that included far more than her famous sculptures—it informed drawings, prints,
paintings, and design objects as well as her many public commissions. If you missed SFMOMA's
major international retrospective of her awe-inspiring work last year, Avril will offer a review.
